What are hinok products made of?
Jeju Hinoki Cypress water (Chamaecyparis obtusa water) is the base of every formula, steam-distilled from branches pruned in Ara-dong, Jeju. No synthetic fragrance in any formula, and The Spray is alcohol free.
Do hinok products contain any allergens or irritants?
Every formula is tested for skin irritation. The care line contains cypress oil and lists Limonene, a fragrance allergen that comes with the oil, so we recommend a spot test if your skin is very sensitive. The Spray is water only, with no oil and no Limonene.
Are hinok products vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes. hinok is PETA-certified vegan and never tested on animals.
Is it safe to use hinok products during pregnancy?
We are not able to give medical advice. We recommend checking with your doctor before using any product during pregnancy.
Is it safe to use The Spray around pets and children?
Yes, with care. Let sprayed surfaces dry fully, wipe items that may be touched or licked, and do not spray near a pet's face. Pet guidance for The Spray was reviewed with a veterinary internal medicine lab at Jeju National University.

What does Jeju Hinoki Cypress smell like?
Hinoki Cypress carries phytoncides, the aromatic compounds released by cypress trees. The scent is cool and dry, close to wet bark and a forest floor after rain.
What makes hinok's packaging sustainable?
Bottles are built to be refilled, so each cycle uses less plastic than a new bottle. hinok is Plastic Neutral through rePurpose Global.
Where are hinok products made, and what is the brand's origin?
hinok begins on Jeju, where cypress branches left from pruning are steam-distilled with the Jeju Resource Plant Research Institute. What remains after distillation is composted and returned to the forest.
Are the refill packs better for the environment?
A refill pouch uses far less plastic than a new bottle, and you keep the bottle in use. On The Spray, the trigger is replaced free for five years. See Refill & reuse.
Product care & customer policies
Does The Spray disinfect or kill germs?
No. The Spray is a deodorizer for fabrics and rooms. It removes odor at the source, and it is not a disinfectant.
How should I store hinok products or travel with them?
Store away from direct sunlight. Unopened, The Spray and The Hand Balm keep for two years, and the hair and body care line for 30 months. Once opened, use within 12 months. The Spray To Go is 3.4 fl oz (100 mL), sized for travel.
Are hinok bottles and refill packs recyclable?
The bottles are recycled PET. Rinse and recycle where facilities exist, though they are built to be refilled first. Refill pouches use far less plastic than a new bottle; follow local guidance for disposal.
