Origin
hinok's cypress water begins in Ara-dong, Jeju, with branches pruned from roughly 30-year-old cypress trees in cooperation with the Jeju Resource Plant Research Institute.
Before hinok,
there is Hinoki Cypress.
The scent is cool and dry, close to wet bark and a forest floor after rain. On Jeju, Hinoki Cypress grows in volcanic soil and sea wind, carrying phytoncides, the aromatic compounds found in cypress forests. hinok works with the leaves and branches left from pruning.
The cypress we use has a place.
Season
It has a source and a season. In The Spray, summer distillations are woodier, while winter distillations come out brighter and a little more citrusy.
Fallen, not Harvested
hinok works with leaves and branches left from pruning. The trees stay standing. What remains after distillation can return to the forest as compost. No trees are harmed. Nothing is wasted. We don't make products. We receive them.
Distilling the Forest.
The pruning material is steam-distilled into cypress water and oil. The scent comes from the material itself, not a synthetic fragrance, so it fades instead of lingering. The result is a deodorizer for fabrics and spaces.
