Made in Jeju
Hinok is dedicated to a more intentional daily routine, sourcing only the most reliable raw materials from nature. Our journey begins in a hinoki cypress forest on Jeju Island.
Jeju Island, renowned for its vibrant landscapes of mountains, seas, and volcanic formations, has been recognized as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. In this pristine environment, hinoki cypress trees have thrived for over 30 years, rooted in nutrient-rich, volcanic-ash soil and nourished by the ocean breeze surrounding the island.
These trees are left untouched by human intervention, relying solely on their natural phytoncides* to protect them from pests and other natural threats. This peaceful forest even serves as a resting place for deer, drawn by the tranquil atmosphere.
Upcycled Jeju Hinoki Cypress
Hinok is committed to using sustainable raw materials without harming nature. One of our solutions is to repurpose the branches and leaves of cypress trees that are naturally pruned—this is the only interaction the trees receive from us.
Through this upcycling process, we produce high-quality products while preserving the integrity of the cypress trees.
Hinoki cypress extract, rich in phytoncides*—known for their calming effects and purifying properties—offers naturally cleansing properties and deodorizing benefits. Its refreshing, pleasant scent captures the essence of a gentle breeze through a Jejuforest.
Phytoncides are antimicrobial allelochemical volatile organic compounds derived from trees. These chemicals have natural antimicrobial and insecticidal properties that protect the tree from germs and parasites. Phytoncides are natural compounds released by cypress trees. They have been the subject of forest bathing (삼림욕) research in Korea and Japan, where time spent among cypress forests has been associated with feelings of restoration and well-being.
